Simply called the "Jamatzouytz", the clock. Located in the center of the village, it
used to be the only time indicating machine in the early days. People used to rely on
this clock
to go to school, or to return from the fields. The sound of the bells could be heard as
far as the Karachi river.
The Clock was built by the help of Sister Hedwig and her missionary movement. Almost every visitor of Anjar remembers the clock and its surrounding park. It was a meeting point for teenagers and a place of camping for the scouts. However, during the civil war and during the period when Anjarians were able to buy wrist watches, the Clock was considered obsolete. And in 1996, the famous Clock was demolished in order to make way for a new road.
The clock had historical value and it will be missed by many of us.
