Armenia & The Armenians
ZENITH OF POWER
Armenia reached the zenith of its political power and territorial
expansion under King Tigranes (Dikran) the Great, who reigned from 95 to
55 B.C. His realm extended from the Caspian Sea right across the Middle
East, Syria, the borders of Egypt and to the Mediterranean Sea,
containing over 30 million inhabitants.
Incidentally, when the ancestors of the present day Europeans
were still living the life of semi-barbarians, the Armenians had a 2,000
year old civilization behind them!
Northern Syria and Cilicia were also incorporated into Tigranes'
domain, with Antioch as capital, and Southern Syria, Lebanon and
Palestine remaining as vassal states recognizing Tigranes' authority..
